4ward Sciences Vice President of Business Development: Wendy Roth

It’s been (to borrow from the Beatles, as we Boomers often do) ‘a long and winding road’ to 4ward Sciences…but I’m thrilled to be part of this stellar team.

Born in Norway, I came to the US as a baby. After a few years in Los Angeles; we moved to Chicago. My parents, like Chris’s, worked hard, and eventually Dad started his own successful business as distributor of Norwegian-made heavy machinery used to produce strong, lightweight metal duct for HVAC and specialized applications like concrete void construction and irrigation. I learned quite a lot as an unpaid intern.

After graduating from Principia College with a degree in political science, I spent a year in Bologna, Italy, at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies; finished my SAIS M.A. in international relations the following year in D.C

After my children reached school age, I began working: at defense contractors BDM (where I managed a team at the Office of Foreign Missions and later a $10 million corporate travel budget), and USATREX (where I wrote proposals and worked at the Diplomatic Telecommunications Satellite Program Office), and finally Vance International, where I spent 8 years working up from proposal writer to head of marketing, learning security operations and contingency planning from the best in the business. Loved strategic planning and working with designers to create brand identity.

In between the government/security jobs, I’ve been a travel management consultant to small businesses, a free-lance journalist, a marketing manager at a large national law firm, business manager for a modern dance company, and a manager of international hiking tours. I speak French, Norwegian, and Italian.

These days I’m living in a Vermont village called Charlotte a few miles south of Burlington, near Lake Champlain. My daughter Elsa is married and lives in DC with her husband and my amazing 3-year-old granddaughter. Son Justin will be married in LA by the time this is posted, so I visit both places as often as possible. I travel whenever I can book the housesitter to stay with my Labradoodle.
