4ward Sciences Consultant: Vere Chappell

I began my software development career in junior high, writing scheduling programs for my school when I was in the 8th grade. Since then I have designed and coded on a wide variety of platforms, from the Apple II and Commodore 64 to DEC minis and CDC mainframes, in languages from BASIC to C#, Lisp to PHP. Although much of this ability was self-taught, I also received formal computer science training at UCLA, where I earned a bachelor's degree in cognitive science in 1989.

In 1994 I branched out into management consulting, and worked in a wide variety of industries to help businesses make the most effective use of their technology through strategic planning, process reengineering, organizational development, and structured project management. For five years I was vice president and chief technology officer of Cognitive Micro Systems (CMS), developing and marketing software and technology consulting services for corporate and government clients throughout the country, including several Fortune 500 firms.

CMS was acquired by the commercial real-estate giant CB Richard Ellis in 2000, where I continued as managing director of strategic technology solutions and director of application development. I earned an MBA from Pepperdine University in 2002, and numerous technology certifications along the way. In 2007 I became independent, focusing on Internet-based software development and new media technologies, as I have since joining 4ward Sciences in 2009.

I live in Southern California with my wife Lita-Luise and our cat Jasmine, and devote much of my spare time to traveling the world and seeking to better understand the human condition.
