4ward Sciences Information Architect: Oliver Gifford

I was born in raised in San Diego, California. After High School and a year at the Community College I moved by myself to New York City. I worked 2 ½ years in a factory, starting as a box packer, and eventually moved to operating a slew of bindery machines – most of them larger than my small, shared studio. I quit the factory a little while after September 11, and since the job market in the city was tough for most people at the time, I felt fortunate to land a job as a diamond grader with a company willing to train me. There I got to see incredible diamonds of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

I eventually left New York and, after living and exploring in the Pacific Northwest for a year and earning a Bachelor's in Busines Mangement, returned to San Diego, where my first job was working with Chris Brown and Casey Myers as an administrative assistant. In the 3 years since then, they have taken every chance to expose me to a new aspect of the business. I have tracked and qualified leads, analyzed RFPs, worked on and reviewed proposals, built financial forecasting spreadsheets, created and maintained our website, and served as our company’s IT support. This is my first time working with such a small and independent team, and I’m loving every minute of it.

I now live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, Daena. Yes, we enjoy the rain. Yes, we bicycle almost everywhere (even when it rains).
